Since the inception of the contest, students from Northeastern Academy have been invited to participate and compete. The Oratory Program provides students with instruction and experience in the art of developing a speech and persuasive public speaking. Monetary awards are given to students who place first, second and third. All Orators receive a certificate of participation.
Recently begun, The Edward D. Herndon Legacy Foundation, Inc. hosts a leadership program whose purpose is to provide industry professionals and Northeastern Academy Alumni a platform to give back in lending their advisement to students regarding their careers.
The sole purpose of the benefit concert is to raise funds for the initiatives of the Foundation. Past concert participants have included the Northeastern Academy Choir, the Mount Vernon SDA Church Choirs, as well as gospel industry greats such as Richard Smallwood and Hezekiah Walker.
