The EDH Legacy Foundation is pleased to announce this year’s scholarship recipient - Mr. Jordan Emmanuel. Jordan Emmanuel, a graduating senior at Northeastern Academy, has made the decision to enter the field of ministry and will continue his pursuit of higher education at Oakwood University. The Foundation congratulates Mr. Emmauel and looks forward to hearing positive things about him in the future.
The Annual Oratorical Contest was held at Mount Vernon SDA Church on May 11, 2019. This year the contest had three competitors from Northeastern Academy and one special participant - eight year old Mr. John Augustus Lee James, who recited Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech. The oratorical presentations were made by Ms. Ajeya Watson, 10th Grade; Ms. Cheryssa Hislop, 12th Grade; and Mr. Simeon Ramsey, 12th Grade. Each of the participants gave compelling and persuasive presentations. After hard deliberations, the judges made the decision that Cheryssa Hislop would receive the top award, with Simeon Ramsey and Ajeya Watson coming in at 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Each participant received a monetary award as well as a certificate of recognition. Congratulations to all!
Today, the EDH Legacy Foundation held its annual oratorical contest at Mount Vernon SDA Church. The participants, students from Northeastern Academy, ranged from grades 9 thru 12. The seven contestants this year were:
Behaca Surpris - 12th Grade
Israel Lamey - 11th Grade
Emily Rusnak - 9th Grade
Jade Reuben - 9th Grade
Ajeya Watson - 9th Grade
Langston Parris - 9th Grade
Niquelle Johnson - 9th Grade
After deliberating for a few minutes, the judges rendered the following placements:
1st Place - Behaca Surpris/$500 prize
2nd Place - Langston Parris/$300 prize
3rd Place - Jade Reuben/$200 prize
All contestants received a certificate for their participation. Contestants who did not place also received a monetary award of $100 each. Congratulations to all participants ~ keep up the good work!
The Edward D. Herndon Legacy Foundation, Inc. would like to announce that the benefit concert for 2018 will feature award winning gospel artist Hezekiah Walker and The Love Fellowship Choir. In honor of Mr. Herndon's love of learning, the Edward D. Herndon Legacy Foundation, Inc. is proud to offer a trip to the National Museum of African-American History & Culture. We will travel by charter bus on February 18, 2018 from Harlem, NY to the museum that honors the historic legacy of African-Americans. Space is limited and tickets must be purchased by Jan. 31, 2018. The 4th Annual Oratorical Contest was held on April 22, 2017 at Mount Vernon SDA Church. This event supports the Foundation's Leadership initiative. The contestants and topics were as follows:
Joel Williams/Grade 12 - Honesty
Jessica Pitters/Grade 12 - Coming of Age
Surayya Walters/Grade 11 - Self Image/Self Esteem
The award placements were as follows:
Tied for 2nd Place - Joel Williams and Jessica Pitters. Both participants received a $300 award.
First Place - Surayya Walters. Award - $500

Herndon Legacy Foundation, Inc. has sponsored an Annual Oratorical Contest for students at Northeastern Academy in memory of the 40 years that Pastor Edward Herndon served as the school's beloved Bible teacher.
